When I first watched the Arslan Senki anime, it held be absolutely enthralled. Not only was the series absolutely overflowing with gorgeous bishounen, high production values, and my favorite seiyuu, but the storyline was engrossing, and I found myself truly connected with the characters. As the episodes progressed, I realized that even this awe-inspiring anime became plauged with the curse of the long and expensive anime series. As the episodes continued, the pace became more and more hurried. Hundreds of pages of manga were squeezed into mere minutes of animation. All the time in early episodes spent on introducing plot arcs and new characters was lost with the rush to finish the main storyline in as short a time as possible. So many intruiguing facets of character and story were left unresolved that the ending, for me, truly was bittersweet.
So I decided to do something about it.
The Arslan Senki anime is based on a 13-book manga series that is itself based on a series of prose novels. My own Japanese translation skills are not equal to an actual novel, so I decided to forgo the original Arslan and import the manga instead. Finally, I can experience the entire Arslan saga! Complete and unhurried! And of course, all the pretty bishounen on nigh every page are a welcome omake. *^^*
These manga scanlations were done for completely personal reasons. In the process of rendering Arslan into English, I decided I might as well share my efforts with others who also love these characters, and who would also like to know the manga story. Hence, this page was created.
But first, you should be warned that I am not a professional translator. In fact, I've never taken a class in Japanese language, and I've never even spoken to a Japanese person in their native tongue. I am an anime fan who decided to learn the language of her passion. I began to teach myself in 1999, and continue to this day. I am trying my utmost to do justice to Arslan, but I am sure I will err on a regular basis in these scanlations. Please forgive my humble mistakes. *bow*
No doubt, the Arslan Senki manga has been translated by others, and their work has been posted on somewhere on the net. I have never viewed anyone else's version of Arslan manga translations. These pages were translated by me, Sailor Two Moons, with occasional help from my translation sempai, Andrew-kun.
These scanlations are done in the fansubbing style. Occasional terms are left untranslated and name suffixes are retained. (Arslan-sama instead of Most Beloved and Exaulted Mr. Arslan.) Any untranslated words will be explained in liner notes at the bottom of each page, as well as interesting facts or tidbits of information that I want to point out or share.
If you have never heard of a "scanlation", allow me to define the term. A "scanlation" is when the original page of manga was scanned, and the Japanese text edited out and replaced with an English translation using an image editing program like Photoshop. Scanlations can be controversial in the anime and manga community, as they allow viewers to understand what is being said AND to see the actual art, all without purchasing the original books for themselves. For this reason, I have tried to make these scanlations as hard to download as I can. I am not out to steal money from the mangaka or original author, I am sharing their work as a testament to my devotion. Arslan is an amazing epic, and I urge everyone who enjoys the story and what I have done here to buy their own copies of the original manga. It can be a bit difficult to find in online manga stores, but they are out there! After all, I was able to buy mine! ^^
Every scanned page has text over the image. The text consists of two parts:
"Arslan Senki manga by Nakamura Chisato - original story by Tanaka Yoshiki"
"vol# p# ~ ISBN # - fan translation by slr2moons@hotmail.com"The first line tells you exactly where the image is from, including the name of the mangaka and author. The second line gives the exact page's location and the tankoubon's ISBN number. This way, you have everything you need to order the book for yourself. The second line also makes sure you know that this is a fan-produced work, is unlicensed, and gives my email address.
Please do not post this site's URL to any mailing lists, nor submit it to any search engines or link colletion sites like the Anime Web Turnpike. I want this site to remain as unfamous as possible. The fastest way for this work to vanish from the net would be the threat of legal action from the publisher. Yes, it HAS happened before with scanlations pages, though luckily not yet my own. And the less advertised this site is, the longer it will last. You can tell your friends, you can link to it from your own site, but please keep it on a small scale. Onegai shimasu!
Of course, should the Arslan Senki manga ever be licensed for commercial release in North America, these scanlations will be taken down in deference to the legal translation. Naturally, if you are the copyright holder and wish for me to remove these scans, please let me know.

On the names in Arslan Senki...
Those who have also see the Arslan anime know that before the final oav's NA release, the parent Japanese company who owns the actual anime contacted Central Park Media and asked them to change the spelling of several characters' names, even though they would be correct for only the last episode. These are the spellings I will use in my scanlations--with one exception. The Japanese company asked for Daryuun's name to be spelled "Darün". Since the vast majority of the English-speaking world has no idea what to do with the letter ü, I decided to romanize his name exactly as it is written in Katakana. For names where there is no established roman spelling, then I romanized to my own taste. For this reason, names of minor characters and locations in my version of Arslan will be different from others and from their counterparts in the anime. And just so you know, the Japanese creators chose to spell "Narcasse" with a French influence. It sounds like "Narsus", not "Narkass". ^^
